Zhenya's Last Letter to His Family

Hello from Volgograd!

Hello, my dear mama, papa and brother Denis. I just received your letter where you wrote that you had tried to place a call to me, but I never knew anything about it. Mama, try to call again. We really need to talk! How is everything with you? Everything here is fine so far, I'm alive and well, and miss you. They've begun to give us a little bit of compensation, and now on December 12 the "100 days" starts -- 100 days until discharge, and New Years is just around the corner.

Has Natasha been coming by? Tell everyone I said hello. After being home on leave, I am really sick of the army. The monotony really gets on my nerves. How is Denis' schoolwork going, and what's he doing with his free time? We're now doing technical and weapon preparation for training in shooting, and after the New Year we may go on a training mission, I'm not sure for how long. Who will you be spending New Year's with?

Mama, I left and forgot to leave the house key. How's the weather there? Here it's not too cold, but that's only temporary. The real cold is still ahead, in February. Volodya said that before June "we", meaning all of us who were drafted at the same time, will be discharged from the army. So that's what I'm waiting for.

Time is really dragging here, but my home leave flew by like it was only an hour. Where is our Koka now, living with grandma or has he taken off again? Tell him I said hi.

Well, that's it for now! See you later! Big kisses to everyone.

Respectfully,
your Zhenya
